The Targari once developed a virus to infect the navigational systems of rival spaceships. For some reason, it gained superstitious status as ungetriddable, and people build separate bodies for them to infect so that they’ll leave their ships alone (plus, they tend to have friendly personalities, and it’s nice to have something to talk to).
